Czaplewski, an old Sherman County resident has answered the last call and he passed to the great beyond last Sunday, after an illness of only about a week. The old familiar face seen so often on the streets of Loup City, with his jovial disposition will be with us no more. About a week ago Mr. Czaplewski took sick, and his case was diagnosed as diabetes but that the end was so near, was never thought of, and he himself, we are told was joking a short time before his death, not realizing himself that he was so close to death's door. Mr. Czaplewski was known to the entire community as a hardworking and industrious citizen, and he and his good wife have toiled hard as they journeyed down life's pathway to-gether and have accumulated considerable wealth by their efforts. John M. Czaplewski was born April 13, 1859 at Skarsiowy [sic--Skarszewy], Poland and was at the time of his death, aged 68 years, 9 months and 5 days. he was united in marriage in 1880 to Barbara Louck [sic]. To this union there was born 4 sons and 5 daughters. One daughter having passed away about three years ago. Those who are left to mourn his death are, his wife, Barbara Czaplewski. The children are, John J., Joseph, Frank and Ben, all of Loup City, their sons. Mrs. Mary Synak, Mrs. John Pelanowski, Mrs. Stanley Czarnek, all of Loup City and Mrs. Ignac Grabowski of Lincoln. Forty two grand children, and one great grand child, one brother, Mike Czaplewski of Omaha and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral services were held Tuesday forenoon from St. Josaphats Catholic church in charge of Rev. Father Alexander and the remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery. It was one of the largest attended funerals ever held in Loup City and people were here from all parts of the county to pay tribute to an old resident. Coming to America in 1884 he settled in Omaha remaining there until 1893 when he came to Sherman County and settled on a farm east of town until a few years ago when he retired and moved to Loup City where he took life easy. His death removes a hard working, industrious citizen who made the most of life and his memory will always be linked with that class of old settlers who promoted the farming industry by hard work. ------------- People’s Standard (Loup City) January 13, 1928: LOUP CITY RESIDENT CALLED BY DEATH FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR J. M. CZAPLEWSKI TUESDAY MORNING Coming as a distinct and painful shock to his many friends in Sherman county was the announcement of the death of J. M. Czaplewski, which occurred at his home in Loup City Sunday noon about twelve-thirty o’clock following an illness of only a few days. Last Tuesday the deceased became aware of a sore in one nostril, something like a boil. The following day the side of the face, especially the upper part of the lip, near the cheek bone and the eye were badly swollen. Medical assistance was obtained immediately, a nurse was installed in the sick room and later a specialist called in but the patient seemed to be beyond any possible help. He suffered excruciating pain and agony from Wednesday until the time of his death. John M. Czaplewski was born and raised in Skarzawy [sic--Skarszewy], Poland, on April 13, 1859 and passed from this life Jan. 8, 1928 at the age of 68 years, 8 months and 25 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Barbara Lamek. In the year 1884 he and his wife and two children came to America and settled in Omaha where they lived for several years. Part of that time the deceased was engaged in business there and later as a laborer. In the fall of 1893 he and his family moved to Sherman county, locating on a farm near Ashton. After living there one year they moved to a farm near Austin and after living there three years they moved to a farm three miles east of Loup City. About nine years ago Mr. and Mrs. Czaplewski left the farm and moved to Loup City where they have since resided. During the thirty-five years that he made his home in Sherman county the deceased made many friends, all of whom deeply mourn his untimely departure. His jovial, happy disposition attracted him friends wherever he lived. He will not only be greatly missed by his immediate relatives but by these friends who have known him so well. He is survived by his wife, four sons and four daughters. One daughter, Mrs. Frances Kufel of Ashton, preceded him in death several years ago. The sons are John J., Joe, Frank and Ben Czaplewski. The daughters are Mrs. Mary Synak, Mrs. Martha Czarnek, Mrs. Agnes Pilanowski, all of Loup City and Mrs. Anna Grabowski of Lincoln. There are also forty-two grand children, one great granddaughter, and one brother, Mike Czaplewski of Omaha, besides other relatives. The funeral services were held at the St. Josephat’s church Tuesday morning at ten o’clock and interment made in the St. Josephat’s cemetery. Father Alexander had charge of the services. An unusually large crowd of friends from Loup City, Ashton and Rockville was present to pay their last respects to this departed friend. Relatives from a distance in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ignac Grabowski and children of Lincoln, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Czaplewski and son Mike, Jr., and Theo Golka of Omaha. The entire community sympathizes with the bereaved relatives in the loss of this splendid citizen and highly respected townsman. -------------- Michael Czaplewski (memorial #64918090) is a brother.
