Son of George Thomas Harvey and Elvira Kelly OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, May 18, 1950 JOHN NORMAN HARVEY John Norman Harvey, son of George and Elvira Harvey, was born December 16, 1871, on a farm northwest of Norwood, Ottercreek township, Iowa and passed away at his home May 3, 1950, at the age of 78 years, four months and 17 days. He had spent his entire life in the same community and had seen many changes in that period of time. He was the last member of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. On November 1, 1898, he was united in marriage to Vernie Bond and together they had shared 51 years of happy companionship. They were the parents of six daughters, Mildred Hutchcroft and Bessie Kessler, of Lacona; Juanita Cunningham, of Woodburn; Margaret Wiedenman, of Des Moines; June Logan, of Maine; and Helen Terrell, of Chariton. He was converted in the United Brethren revival in the winter of 1914 and during the years of rearing their family, he was very active in Sunday school and church work. John was an excellent neighbor and sympathetic friend. He was strong in his convictions and a champion of what he felt was right. He had given a great deal of time to the community, having served in various township offices and as a member of the school board for many years. Besides his wife and daughters, he leaves to cherish his memory the sons-in-law and six grandchildren, who where a constant source of joy to him. They are Norman Hall, who was reared in the Harvey home, now of Des Moines; Noel Vincent and Jean Kessler, of Lacona; Herman Wiedenman, in the Air Force at Wichita Falls, Texas; Quentin Vincent, of Des Moines; and Muriel Terrell, of Chariton, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 6th, at 2:30 p.m. at the Miley Funeral home by the Rev. G. E. McCanon, of Des Moines. Interment was in the Fletcher cemetery near Norwood.
