Description	:	John Palmer was the oldest child of Alexander B. and Mary Younger Palmer. He was born in Berwickshire, Scotland, August 8th, 1846, and passed away at his home in Fairfield, Nebraska, January 29th, 1926. He was seven years of age when his parents came to America and settled in Columbiana County, Ohio. Read More	John Palmer was the oldest child of Alexander B. and Mary Younger Palmer. He was born in Berwickshire, Scotland, August 8th, 1846, and passed away at his home in Fairfield, Nebraska, January 29th, 1926. He was seven years of age when his parents came to America and settled in Columbiana County, Ohio. Three years later they moved to Tuscaraus County, Ohio where the resided until the spring of 1862, when they moved to Piatt County, Illinois. Ten years later Mr. Palmer came to Nebraska and on December 23, 1872, he filed on his claim, where he lived until about eleven years ago when he was compelled by ill health to come to town where he could take life a little easier. He was married to Margaret Black Ellenwood, December 20th,1883. There were born to this union six children, I. R. of Lakota, Washington, and V. 0., Bertha and J. E. of Fairfield.. One son passed away in infancy and a daughter Luella, passed away three years ago. Besides his wife and family, he leaves to mourn their loss, one sister Mrs. Van Meter of Curtis, Nebraska, a brother-in-law James Black who makes his home with them, five grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends. Mr. Palmer was a member of the K. of P. lodge for many years. Mr. Palmer was of old Covenanter stock, and as a lad was taught by his father that a man who would not fight for his religion if need be, had no religion. He united with the Presbyterian Church when about 15 years of age. When he came to this new country there was no church of any denomination, but a community without a church was not to be thought of, and Mr. Palmer, with his father and mother were three of the seven charter members of the Fairfield Congregational Church. For 53 years he has been a faithful member of this church. The words of this old hymn were the sentiments of his heart: I love thy Kingdom, Lord, the house of thy abode, The church out blest Redeemer saved with his own precious blood. I love thy church, O God. Her walls before thee stand, Dear as the apple of thine eye and graven on thy hand. For her my tears shall fall. For her my prayers ascend; To her my cares and toils be given Till toils and cares shall end. Funeral services were held at the Fairfield Congregational Church, Monday February 1st at 2:30 p. m., conducted by Rev. Thomas D.
