Description	:	PITTARD, JOHN—John Pittard was born in Somersetshire, England, March 14, 1842, the eldest of a family of eleven children, nine boys and two girls. He passed away at the home of his son Charles, near Geneva, Neb., Thursday, August 2, 1934 at 6:30 p.m. at the age of 92 years 4 months and 19 days. Read More	PITTARD, JOHN—John Pittard was born in Somersetshire, England, March 14, 1842, the eldest of a family of eleven children, nine boys and two girls. He passed away at the home of his son Charles, near Geneva, Neb., Thursday, August 2, 1934 at 6:30 p.m. at the age of 92 years 4 months and 19 days. He grew to manhood in England, coming to America in 1865, landing in Canada. Coming on to the United States, he settled in Waukesha County, Wisconsin. He was married to Miss Helen Bates at Sussex, Wis., November 17, 1877. After their marriage they moved to Ludington, Mich., where Mr. Pittard worked in the pine woods in the lumber camps. From there they moved to Oconomowoc, Wis. In the spring of 1879 they came to Nebraska, buying a farm in what is now Geneva Township from the railroad company. They resided on this farm until 1900, when they moved to Friend, Neb. Mr. Pittard had been in failing health for the past five years, and had made his home with his son near Geneva most of the time since, going back to Friend in the summer months when his health permitted. Two years ago his sight began to fail and for the past year and a half, he had been totally blind. This affliction deprived him of his greatest pleasure, that of reading, he having always kept posted on the current events of the day. He bore this affliction with great patience and little complaint. When a young man, he united with the Episcopal Church in England and retained this faith until his death. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Friend, Neb. He was preceded in death by his wife, who passed away October 15, 1929. He leaves to mourn his death his son Charles and wife, three grandchildren, Mrs. Thomas Ewalt, Mrs. Walter Lovegrove, and John Pittard, all of Geneva; four great-grandchildren and one brother, Joseph Pittard of Scottville, Mich. The funeral service was held at the Charles Pittard home at 2:30 p.m. Sunday and was conducted by Rev. W. H. Shoaf of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Geneva. Interment was in the Geneva Cemetery.
