Description	:	PITTARD, CHARLES RUTHERFORD—Charles Rutherford Pittard, son of John and Helen Bates Pittard, was born near Sussex, Wis., March 7, 1879. He passed away at the Fillmore County hospital in Geneva, Neb., August 26, 1967, following a brief illness at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 19 days. Read More	PITTARD, CHARLES RUTHERFORD—Charles Rutherford Pittard, son of John and Helen Bates Pittard, was born near Sussex, Wis., March 7, 1879. He passed away at the Fillmore County hospital in Geneva, Neb., August 26, 1967, following a brief illness at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 19 days. When he was six months old his parents moved to Nebraska and settled in the vicinity of Geneva. In 1882 his father purchased a farm from the railroad northwest of Geneva and here he grew to manhood. He received his education in the rural Districts No. 81 and No. 12 of Fillmore county and the Fairmont public school. February 1, 1900, he was married to Ella Huston of hear Fairmont. They resided in this same community their entire married life with the exception of three years spent in Billings, Mont., and Friend, Neb. To this union were born four children, Helen (Mrs. Tom Ewalt), Vera (Mrs. Walter Lovegrove), and John, all of Geneva and a son, George, who died in infancy. Mr. Pittard became a member of the Methodist church while living at Friend, later transferring his membership to the Geneva Methodist church, where he was serving on the board of trustees for many years. He was a member of Modern Woodmen of America, Camp No. 558, and Geneva I. O. O. F. lodge No. 65. He retired from the farm in 1957 and moved to Geneva to reside with his daughter, Mrs. Walter Lovegrove. He was active until his final illness, riding on the Odd Fellow float in Geneva’s parade at the Centennial observance. Charles will be remembered as a generous and loving father and grandfather, a neighbor always willing to help in time of need and with a sense of humor which endeared him to all who knew him. A special joy and comfort to him in his reclining year were his great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella, in 1953; his son, George; and his parents. He leaves to mourn his passing, a daughter, Mrs. Tom Ewalt, and husband Tom, a daughter, Mrs. Walter Lovegrove; a son, John and wife Rouene, six grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p. m. Tuesday, august 29 at the Kritner-Farmer funeral home in Geneva, Rev. K. Orlando Lee officiating. Sheldon Johnson sang “In the Garden” and “Abide With Me.” Mrs. Johnson was accompanist. Pallbearers were Leonard Carlson, Ben Fussell, Charles Grothe, Jesse Richards, Harry Ward, and Wayne Winchell. Interment was in Geneva cemetery with the Geneva Odd Fellow lodge in charge. The Nebraska Signal 31 Aug. 1967 page 9.
