Description	:	John Ray Parris, 88, of Sylva, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at Mountain Trace Nursing Center. Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, in the chapel of Melton Funeral Home with the Revs. Mike Fox and Darick Frady officiating. Burial was in Addie Cemetery with William E. Dillard American Legion Post conducting military honors. Pallbearers were Gary Hoyle, Matt Hoyle, Mark Hoyle, Benton Mathis, Jeff Mathis and Jason Gregory. Surviving are his wife of more than 40 years, Mildred Parris; two daughters, Patsy Goodard of Clayton and Peggy Stepp of Sylva; three sons, Truman Parris of Sylva and Floyd Dean Parris and Jim Gregory, both of Cullowhee.
