Ellis. She is the daughter of Edward Ellis, one of Ida Counties substantial citizens. Ida County Pioneer Record - Thursday , April 22nd, 1954 - Arthur - John R. Neal was bom in Dubuque county, Iowa on May 26, 1860 and passed away on April 7, 1954 at an age of 93 years, 11 months and nine days. After spending his early years in his native county Mr. Neal, came as a young pioneer to Ida county where he bought a farm and engaged in farming for many years. He also worked as clerk in the Mel Ellis store and at the Arthur Lumber yard for many years. In those early days, houses on the prairie were scattered, neighbors many miles apart, mail was carried on horse back from Sac City to Ida Grove then only a frontier town. Buffalo roamed the plains and Indians came to call. On February 8, 1887 he was married to Ella Ellis, daughter of another pioneer family. She passed away December 4, 1947. To this union were born a daughter Ida E. Morris of Libertyville, IL., a son Earl R. Neil of Sioux City, four grandchildren David L. Morris of Waukegan, IL., George E. •Morris of Miami, Fla.; J. Warren Neal of Arthur, Martha Ellsberry of Madison, Wisc, and nine great grandchildren, two nephews: Roy Neal of Atlantic, Frank Neal of Brookings, S.D; six nieces: Mrs. Anna Mead of Schaller; Mrs. Paul Kirk of Lincoln, Nebr; Mrs. Gladys Boctell of Washington State, Mrs. Blanche Bennet and Mrs. Myrtle Collin of Galva and Ruth Neal of Ida Grove. Mr. Neal was a lover of the out of doors and always looked forward to spring time and his garden which he tended until past ninety. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Moore Christensen Funeral home with the Rev. S.T. Fitch in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. John Collier. Bearers were John Carlson, A.E. Lindsay, B.B. Stephan, Ray Haefner, Ed England, D.J. Edgar. Burial was at the Ida Grove cemetery.
