Description	:	John Robertson Stout was a baby when he rode in his mother's arms on a mule from Illinois to Plevna, Missouri. They lived in a house built by Jesse Stout from 1863, and lived in the area near Shelbina. Then he and Ida moved to Sterling, Kansas between 1894 and 1916, where he worked in a nursery growing flowers. John had been a farmer and carpenter in Missouri on rented land. Read More	John Robertson Stout was a baby when he rode in his mother's arms on a mule from Illinois to Plevna, Missouri. They lived in a house built by Jesse Stout from 1863, and lived in the area near Shelbina. Then he and Ida moved to Sterling, Kansas between 1894 and 1916, where he worked in a nursery growing flowers. John had been a farmer and carpenter in Missouri on rented land. After living in Sterling, he & Ida moved back to Missouri and his last job was as a school custodian. About 1934, John & Ida arrived unexpected at the home of their son, Charles Wesley Stout, in Mulberry, Arkansas. Charles moved them to the home of two widows, "Aunt Jane [Wagner] and Aunt Sarah". In 1935, John & Ida moved in with Charles & his family. In 1936, they moved to the state hospital in Bentonville, Arkansas. Charles' children, Burton Lynn and Mary Mason, remembered their grandfather John planting pebbles, thinking they were seeds, and bringing in the cows even though they didn't need milking. John would also start walking to Missouri, and Charles would have to go find him. Charles' wife, Florence, and her mother, Etta, were somewhat fearful of John. Etta was afraid of John's wife, Ida, who would fall asleep in a rocking chair and snore with her mouth open. Florence would tiptoe in and put a spoonful of pepper or something bitter in Ida's mouth. Although he had Altzheimer's, John died of a cerebral hemorrhage. The above information told to Scot Stout by Charles' and Florence's daughter, Mary Mason Stout Herbrandson.
