Description	:	John Swenson, formerly of Union Township, died Wednesday at his home in Clay Center, and the funeral was held Friday, a brief service at his home, followed by the regular sermon and church service at the Methodist Church at Broughton. Rev. Holmgren of the Swedish M.E. Church had charge. Rev. and Mrs. Holmgren sang "I Am a Pilgrim, I Am a Stranger" and "I Shall Not Be Moved," and Rev. Rev. Holmgren of the Swedish M.E. Church had charge. Rev. and Mrs. Holmgren sang "I Am a Pilgrim, I Am a Stranger" and "I Shall Not Be Moved," and Rev. Holmgren spoke briefly in the church at Broughton; a quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. George Dietrich, Mrs. Verne Carson, and Robert Arnett sang and Rev. Holmgren spoke. Interment was made at the Broughton Cemetery. The following served as pallbearers: M.P. Fisher, William Reed, Ben D. Spiers, Harry Clark, John Miller, and S.E. Hinds. John Swenson was born in Bleking, Sweden, on January 20, 1842. At his death last Wednesday he was two months past 81 years of age. He came to America in 1864 and lived for some years in Michigan. He came to Kansas in 1871 and located in Union Township of Clay County, where he lived until four years ago, when he moved into Clay Center. He was married in 1881 to Amanda Magnuson. Six children were born into the home. One died in infancy, the others, one son and four daughters, survive. He was a member of the Swedish Lutheran Church north of Clay Center, but owing to the great distance between the church and his home, he was out of touch of it and his family became attached to the Methodist Church in Broughton. He is mourned by his beloved wife, by his son Charles Swenson of Clay Center, his daughter, Mrs. Ernest Berrier on the home farm near Broughton, Lemuel Close, living near Clay Center, and Misses Ina and Mildred Swenson of Clay Center. Three grandchildren survive. Mr. Swenson also has one brother and two sisters living in Sweden. Contributor: A.W. Bauer (49122991)
