Description	:	John Sylvester, son of John Kelsey and Lucretia Sylvester Beals, was born at Jonesboro, Tenn., June 29, 1877. He was one of six children, all are deceased, He grow up in Tennessee and married his childhood sweetheart, Emma Garst, on Feb. 14, 1897. To this union 9 children were born, and there remains six living children, They moved to Iowa In 1903 and farmed. Mr. Beals took great pride in his chosen work and his produce showed his love and care. His garden was a thing of beauty which he shared unsparingly with his friends. He loved the outdoors, all animals, especially dogs. He was a man of great character, and had much love for all his fellow beings. His honesty and integrity played a big part in this life. He said his word was as good as his bond. He never wavered in this belief, and practiced it all his life. He was a wonderful father, a wonderful friend. He was a vigorous man, and loved to walk. He enjoyed very good health until a short time before he passed away, His good humor, his ready grin, and lovable nature made him loved by all. His wile passed away July 29, 1961; his three sons, Robert in 1907, Ray in 1958, and Date in 1958. There remains to cherish his memory four sons, Marion, Malvern; John and Dallas, Edgar, Mont.; Max, Crete, Nebr.: two daughters, Mrs. William Staten, Glenwood; Mrs. Vaughn Hoover, Malvern; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Memorial services were conducted at Mansfield Funeral Home on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 2:30 p.m., the Rev. Hugh Shiveley, officiant. Casket bearers were Donald and Robert Beals, Clifford Cheney, Darrel Frederickson, Howard Hayes and Charles Shere. Honorary bearers were Curt Grindle, Albert Johnson, Albert Craig, Harold Culber, Robert Blackman and Robert Woodnard. Flower ladies were Mrs. Charles Shere and Mrs. Albert Craig. Mrs. Ina Scarff was at the registry. Mrs. Richard Henderson, soloist, sang "Sweet By and By" and "Saved By Grace," accompanied by Mrs. Blackburn, organist. Interment was in the Malvern cemetery.
