Description	:	Requiem high mass was held in the Holy Cross Church in TL Feb 8 for John Kamps, pioneer resident of TL. Fr Patrick Perjes officiated with Fr Thomas Coleman of Glencross assisting. The Holy Cross choir sang the mass. Interment was made in Holy Cross cemetery. Pallbearers were: Pat Miller of Ridgeview, Fred Fahy, N C Scirber, Paul Goins, Julius Brockamp, John Caswell, Dale Scott, and Einar Erickson all of TL. Kesling was in charge of arrangements. John Sylvester Kamps was born Jan 1, 1872, at Appleton, WI. He was 1 of 10 children of John and Rose Kamps. At the age of 9, his family moved to Milbank where he lived until about 1900 when he went to work in an elevator at Sisseton. He was married to Lou Pfeifer on Jan 29, 1902, at Sisseton. Their 2 sons, Bernard and Wilfred, were born while they lived in Sisseton. In 1907 Mr Kamps took his family to Webster where he managed an elevator. The family came to TL on Aug 13, 1910, and homesteaded one mile south of TL. Two years later, Mr. Kamps assumed management of the Simonson elevator in TL. The family moved into town but Mr. Kamps continued his farming operation in addition. In 1928 he retired from the elevator to devote all his time to farming. Mr. Kamps became ill in June of 1945 and was taken to Mobridge Hospital but released shortly after. He was hospitalized again for a week in Dec last, and remained home until Feb 2 when he again entered the hospital. He passed on Feb 4. Left to mourn his passing are his sons: Bernard and Wilfred both of TL; three sisters: Mrs. Matt Schmitt of Webster; Mrs. George Naesig of Moore, MT; Mrs. John Miller of Froid, MT; two brothers: Al of Froid, MT; and Theodore of Van Hook, ND. His wife preceded him in death on July 19, 1945.
