Description	:	A long-time Superior resident, John T. Porter, died Saturday, July 13th, at the Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital at the age of 94 years and 10 days. Porter, died Saturday, July 13th, at the Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital at the age of 94 years and 10 days. The eldest of 10 children of Henry and Leannah Porter, he was born July 3, 1891, at Gate City, Virginia. He received his education in rural schools in Scott County, Virginia. After working with his father for many years on the farm, he moved to the Superior area in 1909 to make his home. Porter was employed with the Nuckolls County bridge crew when they constructed the first bridge over the Republican River south of Superior. November 14, 1916, he and Elsie Edna Dixon were united in marriage at the Christian Church, Nelson. They made their home in Superior where this union was blessed with three children, Alberta, Wendell and Colene. Porter was employed as a car repairman with the Northwestern Railroad Company until his retirement in 1959. He also owned and operated the Superior Skating Rink for many years. After selling the skating rink, he went to work for the Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital as a maintenance man, retiring in 1977. November 14, 1976, Mr. and Mrs. Porter were privileged to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with their family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Elsie, on July 27, 1980; two sisters, Salley Kearney and Dorothy Dixon; and two brothers, Bill and Bordie Porter. Survivors are his two daughters, Mrs. Blaine Hicks (Alberta) and Mrs. Emil Rohla (Colene), Superior; one son, Wendell, Houston, Texas; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three sisters, Nan Dixon, Mrs. Matt McNutt and Kate Carr, Gates City, Virginia; two brothers, Mack and Charles Porter, also of Gates City; and many other relatives.
