There is no documented evidence that he was a son of Peter and Turley, and he is not mentioned in the Peter Turley's will of 1812. Read More	A birth circa 1782 is a supposition, as is the surmise that he might be buried with the Turleys. There is no documented evidence that he was a son of Peter and Turley, and he is not mentioned in the Peter Turley's will of 1812. In the 1800 census, John Turley was listed as head of his household, next door to Robert Williams (and wife Mary Turley Williams, daughter of Peter). John Turley was listed in the 16-26 age bracket, no wife or children, and with three slaves. John Turley had an account with McRa § Cantey's general store, Camden, where other Turleys and relatives also had accounts. In June, 1798, he bought two pocket handkerchiefs, one pair colored hose, 26 3/4 yards muslin, 36 1/2 yards linen, thread, one "Sportsman's Knives," and "a hair ribbon." He also paid his tailor's bill through the store. His accounts for the rest of 1798 show similar purchases. The store ledger runs through 1799 and no further, unfortunately [ref., McRa & Caney Camden Account Book, 1794-99, Camden Archives). If John Turley married or died 1800-1807, or died leaving a widow, there were no children to ing children to inherit from Peter Turley's estate and was not mentioned in his will of 1807. It is presumed he died before this time. 1800 census: Next door to Rpbert & Mary Turley Williams 1810 census: Not found. Robert & Mary Turley Williams, with 31 slaves. 1820 census: John Turley not found. Peter Turley's widow Elizabeth Turley was as head of her household, over 45 years, with one white male between 26-45. Also 22 slaves. The white male could have been John Turley, since her son James Turley died in 1817, but since John Turley was not found in 1810, this is more likely some other relative or overseer/farm manager. If John Turley was still living in 1820, somehow missing the 1810 census and other records, he probably was a nephew rather than son of Peter and Elizabeth Turley since he should have been mentioned in their wills or James Turley's 1817 will or some of the attendant administrations. If John Turley died in Kershaw County, S.C., 1800-1812, there should have been an estate administration dealing with his three slaves, so these likely were borrowed from Peter Turley and returned to Peter if John Turley died 1810-12. Since he was not mentioned in Peter Turley's 1812 will, the deduction is that he likely died 1801-1810. Turley Family Records by Beth Mitchell pp.318-319.
