Description	:	Born in lower Somerset county, Mr. Cox was the son of the late John and Sallie Cox. His birthday was September 16th, 1850. Capt. Johnnie, as he was known to everyone, had been in the lumber business all his life. His mill was on the old State road, above Mariners, and for... Read More	Born in lower Somerset county, Mr. Cox was the son of the late John and Sallie Cox. His birthday was September 16th, 1850. Capt. Johnnie, as he was known to everyone, had been in the lumber business all his life. He started in the days when oxen were used to haul the trees out of the swamps and woods, to the mill, until oxen gave way to horses and mules, and until he retired from the lumber business some years ago, used those methods of transportation. His mill was on the old State road, above Mariners, and for some years his lumber yard and office were on Back street, in Crisfield. During his long life he furnished lumber for many homes and business buildings in the community and on Smiths Island and Tangier Island, for boats of all kinds, and for other purposes. A familiar figure on the streets, he was out in all kinds of weather, and seldom had a cold. In fact, he was very seldom ill at any time during his 94 years. A staunch Methodist, of late year many miles he walked in his lifetime, but it must have been thousands, cruising timber before purchasing it, then logging, and finally delivering the finished product, for in earlier days men engaged in the lumber business walked wore than they rode. This habit stayed with him right up to the last and he enjoyed doing it. Surviving him are two daughters, Miss Rae Cox and Mrs. Clifford Daugherty, and two sons, W. Fletcher Cox and John R.
