MOORE DEAD Well Known Resident Passes Away Monday Night After an illness of several months at his home in this city, death closed the eyes of John W. Moore, in the sleep which is eternal, last Monday night. Stomach trouble and Brights Diseases were the cause of his death. Mr. Moore was 70 years of age and was a son of the late Hamilton and Sallie Moore, and was born in Asbury District. He spent his entire life in this community, and his high character and sterling integrity won for him a position of respect and esteem in the minds and hearts of the general public. A life-long Democrat, Mr. Moore was always interested in the success of his party. He was also an active and consistent member of Immanuel M. E. Church, and of the Jr. O. U. A. M. In his passing the community has lost a valuable citizen. Mr. Moore is survived by his wife, Mr. Ella Moore, and by two brothers, Messrs. Algie T. Moore of Crisfield and Geo. L. Moore of Wilmington. Funeral services were held from Immanuel M. E. Church on Thursday afternoon, with Rev. J. L. Johnson officiating. The Crisfield Times, Crisfield, Maryland, Saturday, August 13, 1921, p. 1 Lawsonia—One of the largest attended funeral services ever held in Asbury was held last Sunday afternoon in the Asbury Tabernacle, over the remains of Mr. John Moore. The Asbury Council, Jr. O. U. A. M. turned out in a body, and conducted their services at the grave. Rev. T. J. Sard preached a feeling and eloquent sermon and the Sterling Quartet sang a very fine hymn. Miss Pauline Nelson rendered a beautiful solo, "In the Land where the Roses Never Fade." The floral decorations were beautiful and a telling tribute for the departed friend and relative. Among the out-of-town relatives were: Mr. George Moore and son John of New York; Mr. Chris Moore of Chester, Pa.; and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Parsons of Pittsville, Md.
