On 11 Jan 1837, he married Rhoda Hart, of Green Co. KY. She moved with her parents, to Sangamon Co. IL in 1823, and while there the county was divided, Menard being taken from it. The land on which Mr. Hart lived was surveyed by Abraham Lincoln. Mr & Mrs Sackett came from Sangamon, IL to Henry Co. IA, in 1851, where he purchased 160 acres of land on section 10, and 40 acres on section 17, Marion Twp. On the latter farm he erected a beautiful 2 story country home, surrounded by fine groves and orchards. When he obtained the land it was nothing but a wild prairie. He hauled the lumber for his house and barn from Burlington, and made many improvements, until he now has one of the finest residences in that part of the county. Mr. Sackett and his wife have witnessed many changes, and are the only ones living in the neighborhood who were there in the days of 1851. They are the parent of 8 children: Mary, the deceased wife of I. H. Draper, a farmer in Riley Co. KS., Nancy wife of J.W. Moore, a farmer in Marion Twp., Thomas died @ 5, Miranda, wife of Jacob Messman, a farmer of Clarke Co. IA., Alfred a farmer of Ringgold Co. IA. married Louisa Deer, Rosanna, wife of William Draper, a farmer in Gage Co. NE., Melissa, wife of Aaron McClure, of Mt. Pleasant, Alice wife of Wm. Jones resides on the old home farm. Mr. & Mrs Sackett have been members of the Methodist Episcopal Church for 40 years, and always active. Mr. Sackett cast his 1st vote for William Henry Harrison, and ever since its organization he has never failed to cast his ballot with the Republican party. He was a great friend of Abraham Lincoln, having become acquainted with him while in Sangamon Co. IL. Jan. 1888 celebrated 50 th wedding anniversary with Rhoda. His father Thomas was a native of PA., his mother from MD. ----------------
