John Wesley Wood was born near Monroe, Iowa, Jan 23, 1866, and died Nov 24, 1933 at the age of 67 years, 10 months, and one day. He was the fifth child of a family of twelve born to Wesley and Nancy Wood and grew to manhood in this immediate vicinity. On Dec.30, 1898, he was united in marriage to Eliza M. Nolin. This bond proved to be an example of faithful and loving service on the part of each. With the exception of three years residence near Reasnor, Iow, their home has been in the Tools Chapel neighborhood. In 1895, they purchased the site on which was built the present home. Three children were born to John and Eliza; a son, Clell, who died at the age of nine years, a son, Loyd, who now lives in Monroe and a daughter, Mrs.Hubert Marshall, whose home is in the chapel community. His whife, and six grandchildren are left behind. Eli Wood of Reasoner, Edmund Wood of Newton, brothers: Mrs. Isaac Reese, Hillyard, Washington, Mrs. Jake Berkenbosch and Mrs. Will Porter of Monroe, Iowa, and Mrs. Rena Reese of Des Moines, sister of John, still survive him. In 1898 John pledge his faith in God and joined the membership at Tool's Chapel. He was never known to make many public confessions of his belief but was content to let his daily life bear witness to the sincerity and purity of his thoughts.He had been afflicted with poor heart action for some time. On Friday morning he told his wife he was going to the coal mine on the James Marshall Farm. He visited there with several cquaintances.Shortly before noon he started to walk home across the fields and pasture. When he did not arrive a search was made. He was found as he had fallen--facing home. Funeral services for John W. Wood, 67, were conducted Tuesday after noon at 2 o'clock from the Tools Chapel east of Monroe, with Rev. F.A. Moore of Columbia, Iowa, in charge, assisted by Rev. Hodgson of the Reasoner charge. Interment was in the cemetery east of Tools Chapel
