LAST RITES HELD FOR MRS. WOOD appeared in Monroe Mirror, 10 August, 1950 Mrs. John Wood, 80, of the Tool's Chapel neighborhood, died at 6:30 o'clock. Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hubert Marshall, east of Monroe. Mrs. Wood had been in poor health for some time. A lifetime resident of Jasper county, she was born April 16, 1870, in the Tool's Chapel area, the daughter of George and Mary Nolin. She had spent most of her life in the area. Her husband preceded her in death 16 years ago. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Hubert Marshall, Monroe; one son, Lloyd, of St. Paul, Minnesota; and two brothers, Ben of Huntington Beach, California; and Elza, of Monroe, Iowa; Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Tool's Chapel and burial was in the Fairview cemetery. =========================== 3. appeared on 17 August 1950: Eliza Nolin was born April 16, 1870 northeast of Monroe. She married John W. Wood Dec. 30,1888 and has spent her life on a farm. She is the mother of three children L.E. Wood, St. Paul, Minn.; Mrs. Flossie Alice Marshall, Monroe; and Clell Irvin Wood who died at the age of nine. Mr. Wood died in 1933. Coming from a family of 11, she is one of three left living. The others being Ben Nolin, Los Angles, Cal., and Elza Nolin, Monroe. At the age of 12 she became a member of Tool's Chapel Methodist Church and has been a Sunday School class teacher for 30 years. She has also been Tool's Chapel correspondent to the Daily News since 1927. She is a member of W. Division Christian Service, American Legion Auxiliary, and Cradle Roll superintendent. ====================== 4. PAY TRIBUTE TO MRS. JOHN WOOD-- ................She was on of a family of 11 children born to George and Mary Nolin, and spent her entire life in this community. .................Eliza------or "Lida" as she was more often called by her friends---was a life-long member of Tools Chapel and a teacher in the Sunday school for many years. There is probable no boy or girl reared in this community in the last 30 years whose name she has not recorded in the Cradle Roll register. She was also member of the Slayden post, American Legion auxiliary and a member of the Newton Daily News Three-Quarter Century Club. She is a member of W. Division Christian Service.
