Description	:	Ref: Oakville Sentinel – William Carlson who operated a shoe repair and harness shop at Oakville for five decades, died at his home at 8:35 a.m. Thursday, Sep. 10, 1953. He had been in failing health for the past two years. Mr. Carlson was 86 years old, and a member of the Oakville Presbyterian Church. He had been in failing health for the past two years. Mr. Carlson was 86 years old, and a member of the Oakville Presbyterian Church. He was born at Augusta, IA on Aug. 28, 1867, the son of the late August & Anna (Johnson) Carlson. He was married to Ogda Swenson on Oct. 15, 1900. She survives as do two sons and five daughters; Elmer Carlson of Des Moines, Glen Carlson, Columbus, MT, Mrs. Inez Egger, Gardiner, MT, Mrs. Ruth Kallenberger, Elrick Junction, Mrs. Irene Woodrum, Fairfield, Mrs. Anna Jennings and Mrs. Esther Cooper of Burlington. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The body was at the Dudgeon Funeral home in Wapello until the service which was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Oakville Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Donald Anderson, pastor of the Emanuel Lutheran Church at Mediapolis, officiated. Burial was in the Edward Cemetery. Mr. Carlson was in business in Oakville for 53 years. He opened a harness, shoe and watch repair shop on Sep. 11, 1896. At the services Saturday, Sep. 12, R. D. Sheridan, Ed Rold, A. E. Faris, E. M. Strawhacker, Russell Mellinger and Albert Swafford served as pallbearers. Mrs. J. G. Waterhouse and Mrs. Wilber L. Williams were in charge of the flowers. Mrs. W. C. Smith, Mrs. Dwight Siverly and Mrs. John O'Brien sang Beyond the Sunset and Miss Mae Peck was the accompanist. Ref: Mrs. Glenn Carlson – J. W. "Bill" Carlson loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed music and loved to sit beside their wood stove and play his "fiddle". His business went by the name of "J. W. Carlson's Harness Shop" at Oakville, IA.
