John was born at home on May 15, 1928 to Sidney and Mary (Gossin) Sharpe at Rural Axtell, Kansas. John was born at home southwest of Pawnee City. John attended rural school to the 8th grade when he quit to help on the family farm. John married Helen JoAnn North on April 15, 1950 in Summerfield, Kansas. To this union five children were born. John and Helen lived in Summerfield and John worked on a dairy farm. They moved to a farm north east of Summerfield. John and Helen then moved to Lock bottom farm in 1958 where he milked cows. In 1962 they moved to Pawnee City where John worked at Farmers Union Co-op. In 1966 they moved to southwest of Pawnee City to the Westbranch area where John and Helen lived until moving on to the family farm in 1977. Thenin 2001 they moved to Pawnee City. John farmed and did construction most of his life. John was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Mary Sharpe, wife Helen JoAnn , son, John "Jack" Sharpe, brothers, James, Leonard, Wendell Sharpe, sisters, Dorothy and Jean. John is survived by his children, Julia West and husband Jerry of Lincoln, NE, sons, Jeffrey Sharpe and wife Cindy of Waterloo, NE, Joe Sharpe and wife Kim of Table Rock, NE, Jay Sharpe and wife Samantha of Pawnee City, NE, eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, sister Rosalie Kennec of Yutan, NE, many other relatives and friends. Memorial service 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 21, 2012 at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska. Officiating Reverend Duane Westing. Visitation Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska from Noon to 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. Inurnment at Pawnee City Cemetery, Pawnee City, Nebraska.
