Description	:	JOHN WILLIAM WESTMAN John William Westman was born the son of David and Eva Westman at Omaha, Nebraska, on April 2, 1888. At the age of two years he moved with his parents to Page County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Nyman Lutheran Church. In 1906 he moved to Essex, where he has made his home, working as builder and cabinet maker and related trades. He was united in marriage to Nora Lydia Skalberg on December 7, 1910. Read More	JOHN WILLIAM WESTMAN John William Westman was born the son of David and Eva Westman at Omaha, Nebraska, on April 2, 1888. At the age of two years he moved with his parents to Page County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Nyman Lutheran Church. In 1906 he moved to Essex, where he has made his home, working as builder and cabinet maker and related trades. He was united in marriage to Nora Lydia Skalberg on December 7, 1910. To this union five daughters were born; Mrs. Sam (Verona) Bengston, Mrs. Frank (Loretta) Johnson, both of Essex, Iowa; Mrs. William (Genevie) Rowe, Beaverton, Oregon; Merine Westman, Clarinda, Iowa; and Marjorie, who passed away May 22, 1934. Preceding him in death were also his parents, two sisters and three brothers. In 1931 he joined the Essex Evangelical Covenant Church where he remained a faithful member singing in the choir and with quartets, and serving in other offices of the church for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Westman celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, December 7, 1960. Surviving besides his wife and four daughters are three sons-in-law, nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, a cousin, Axel Anderson of Stanton, nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 13, 1967, from the Essex Covenant Church, the Rev. John H. Carlson, officiating. The memory book was in charge of Mrs. Frank Royer. Ushers were Martin W. Johnson and Kenneth Rydberg. Flowers were cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Carlson and Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Flynn. Soloist Mrs. George J. Johnson, sang, "Only Glory By and By" and "God Understands." Mrs. Bob Young was organist and accompanist. Honorary casket bearers were Reuel Abraham, Vernon Almquist, Donald Bengtson, Axel Erickson, Erick Erickson, and Reuben Lindburg. Casket bearers were grandsons Joe, Jim and John Bengston, and terry, Dick, Harve Johnson. Interment was in Essex, Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were by Carson-Hackett Mortuary.
