White was born in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, on the 1st of January, 1824. When seven years old his father moved to Bedford County, Pennsylvania. There he was reared until he was 21 years old. There he was married to Elizabeth Jane Black and in 1858 with his family started to Kansas. He landed in Lyon County, Kansas about the 7th day of November, 1859. He was a farmer by occupation and bought a farm in Lyon County where he resided continuously until 1902, when he moved to Americus, Kansas and lived with his son until the time of his death. He has five children living of whom one lives in Oregon, three in Oklahoma and one in Americus. He died January 20th, 1908, at about 7 o'clock in the evening, and was 84 years and 19 days old at the time of this death. He had been gradually declining for the last two years, and for the last twelve months those who knew him best would not have been surprised had he passed over the river at any time. He suffered much but bore it patiently. His son Henry had been his constant companion, and had waited on him and administered to his wants all through his declining years. He has gone to his final rest. Life's battles and struggles with him are over. The tired body and the weary limb no longer feel that throbbing pain. The spirit has gone to the God who gave it. The funeral services were held at the residence yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Neal of the Church of God, and the interment was made in the Americus Cemetery. A large concourse of people did honor to a departed friend. John William White was born to George Washington White (born 15 Mar 1795 in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania and died 27 Jan 1872, buried in Wells Valley, Fulton County, Pennsylvania) and Catherine (Horton) White (born 26 Jun 1798 in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania and died 03 May 1867, buried in Wells Valley, Fulton County, Pennsylvania). He was married to Elizabeth Jane Black about 1848. to that union eleven children were born: Mary Catherine White, born, 18 May 1849 in Bedford County, Pennsylvania.
