Kershaw, better known to our readers as Will Kershaw, died at his home in Silver Creek on Friday, August 20, 1943. He has been in ill health for the past three years, his death coming from a heart condition and complications. Until this spring he had made his home on his farm three miles northeast of town, but due to his health he sold the farm and bought a residence property in Silver Creek several months ago. J.W. Kershaw was born at Derby, Vermont on April 7, 1862 and passed away on August 20, 1943 at his home in Silver Creek, Nebr. at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 13 days. He was the son of John and Harriet Kershaw who came from Leeds, England and settled at Ashland, Nebr. in the year of 1877 where he grew to manhood. Early in life he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and united with the Baptist Church at Ashland, Nebr., to which faith he was true to the end. He was also an active member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. On Aug. 28, 1889 Mr. Kershaw was united in marriage at Plattsmouth, Nebr. to Miss Daisy B. Rager of Ashland, Nebr. To this union 13 children were born, three of whom preceded their father in death--Billy and Mary who died in infancy, and Theodore who passed away at the age of 19 years. Mr. Kershaw's occupation was that of a farmer. He lived on the farm northeast of Silver Creek for forty years. He was a lover of the outdoors, and a great hunting enthusiast. He was known for miles around as an expert trapshooter and competed in many contests. His love for his wife, home and children were his chief interests. He was a kind and loving husband and father and will be missed by his many friends. His patience and consideration of those caring for him during his long illness will always be remembered. Mr. Kershaw leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, seven daughters: Mrs. Wallace Carter of Central City, Nebr.; Mrs. Victor Nielsen of Valley, Nebr.; Mrs. Arnold Ernst of Columbus, Nebr.; Mrs. Ed Waldron of Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Arthur Johansen of Osceola, Nebr.; Mrs. James Hoole of Omaha, Nebr.; and Mrs. Raymond Blaser of Columbus, Nebr. Also 3 sons: Ned Kershaw of Cedar Rapids, Nebr.; Raymond Kershaw Silver Creek, Nebr.; and John Kershaw of Los Angeles, California. Also 35 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren along with a number of other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon at 2:15, and at the Methodist Church in Silver Creek at 2:30, being conducted by Rev. H.F. Beebe, pastor. Songs at the church were sung by Mrs. W.C. Logan and Mrs. John Vitamvas, with Miss Kathleen White at the piano. Ushers were George Carter and E.J. McCauley. Pall bearers were six son-in-laws, Wallace Carter of Central City, Arthur Johansen of Osceola, James Hoole of Omaha, Victor Nielsen of Valley, and Raymond Blaser and Arnold Ernst, both of Columbus. Interment was at the Silver Creek cemetery.
