Description	:	John Wilson Malmberg was born at Imogene on May 14, 1933 to Ivan J. and Ruth (Perkins) Malmberg. He attended Goff Country School and graduated from Essex High School in 1951. He went into the US Army in 1953 where he served at the radar installation in Delaware as a Corporal until 1955. He was honorably discharged in 1961 at which time he returned home to help his dad farm and to begin a long career as a tractor and farm machinery mechanic. In 1976 he and his mother moved to their Nodaway farm. His father had died just prior... Read More	John Wilson Malmberg was born at Imogene on May 14, 1933 to Ivan J. and Ruth (Perkins) Malmberg. He attended Goff Country School and graduated from Essex High School in 1951. He went into the US Army in 1953 where he served at the radar installation in Delaware as a Corporal until 1955. He was honorably discharged in 1961 at which time he returned home to help his dad farm and to begin a long career as a tractor and farm machinery mechanic. In 1976 he and his mother moved to their Nodaway farm. His father had died just prior to moving to the farm at Nodaway. Here John helped his mother raise large flocks of chickens and sell eggs to businesses in Red Oak and Villisca. When he was not farming, John was busy repairing combines, tractors, etc. This work was his passion, and he was very good at it. He earned the respect of his neighbors and fellow farmers soon after moving to Nodaway. Every day, he arose early, opened his shop, and waited for people to begin coming. He loved the challenges the machinery brought to him. He also looked forward to giving away the garden produce he grew. His tomatoes were the best and he always grew enough for all. Following the death of his mother, he continued to raise chickens and sell eggs. On April of 1999 a tornado came roaring through the area destroying the big barn and some 500 chickens as well as damaging his shop, the house, and many trees. John’s health gradually began deteriorating due to Parkinson’s disease and in 2007 he made the decision to leave the farm and enter the Stanton Care Center where he continued to live until entering Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. He died December 5, 2014 at the age of 81 years, 6 months, and 22 days. John was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Ruth Malmberg, his grandparents: John and Hulda Malmberg and John and Olive (Bellis) Perkins. He is survived by his cousins, friends, and neighbors. Funeral services will be held in the Wolfe Funeral Home of Villisca on Thursday, December 11, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Gordon M. Scott officiating. Visitation will be at the Wolfe Funeral Home the day of the service from 9 a.m. to the time of service. Burial will be in the Essex Cemetery following the service.Memorials are suggested to Villisca Rescue Squad or Share-A-Toy in Nodaway.
