Ruth Sarah Malmberg was born September 14, 1914 in Page county, Iowa to John Lewis and Olive Bellis Perkins and died September 10, 2002 at Montgomery County Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa. She attended Goeff Country School. Her entire life was spent on Iowa farms as her parents were farmers and so was her husband. She was united in marriage to Ivan Malmberg. They farmed in Page, Montgomery, and Adams Counties in Iowa. One son, John, blessed this union. Her work ethic never faltered. As a farm wife, she raised large gardens, canned and froze all she could grow every year. Homegrown fruits from their trees always found its way into pies, baked goods, and jars. Her reputation as a good cook was rightfully earned, you never left her table hungry. One could always count on coffee, cookies or cinnamon rolls, if you just dropped by. Rye bread, candy, and especially fried chicken and mashed potatoes were enjoyed by loved ones. She faithfully raised large flocks of chickens beginning with baby chicks in the spring, selling the old hens in the fall, and selling eggs year round. She loved flowers and enjoyed her greenhouse for many years. She never let her hands be idle and she embroidered many beautiful pieces in the spare time. She always had time to held her fellowman, and generously shared the fruits of her labors. After the death of her husband in 1974, she and John her son, moved onto the farm near Nodaway, Iowa, which they had purchased before his death. There she and John continued to farm, garden, and raise chickens. One never left their place empty handed, whether it was a plate of cookies, a flower from the greenhouse, fresh garden produce, or a dozen eggs. The neighborhood children and great nieces and nephews became as grandchildren to her. She was always prepared for them at Valentines Day, Birthdays, Halloween, and Christmas. She went to the Good Samaritan Center in Villisca the her health began failing. She continued to embroidery work and kept her positive attitude. She enjoyed the nightly visits from her son John and hearing about the daily life on the farm. She also looked forward to visits from other family, friends, and neighbors. Preceding her in death was her husband, her parents, a sister, Leah Nicholas, brothers, Jack, Edward, Claude, and Jim. Survivors include her son, John of Nodaway, Iowa; a brother, Tom Perkins and wife Madeline of Tabor, Iowa, a brother-in-law, Werner Malmberg of Shenandoah, Iowa.
