Description	:	John Zoet, a long time resident of Hull, Iowa, passed away at his home after a long illness of 6 months, on August 19, 1956, at the age of 72 years and 10 months. Mr. Zoet was born October 16, 1883 in Elburg, The Netherlands. On October 15, 1903, he was united in marriage to Hendrika Magre. In the spring of 1910 they came to the United States and settled near Hull. Mr. Zoet was born October 16, 1883 in Elburg, The Netherlands. On October 15, 1903, he was united in marriage to Hendrika Magre. In the spring of 1910 they came to the United States and settled near Hull. To this union 11 children were born, eight of whom, with Mrs. Zoet, mourn his death: Christina, Mrs. Walter Boogerd; Coba, Mrs. Paul Vander Ploeg; Henry; Jake; Joe; Gertrude, Mrs. Simon Rodenburgh; Harriet, Mrs. Arthur Moss, all of Hull, and Bertha, Mrs. Sam Attema of Rock Valley. He is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, 5 brothers and a sister in the Netherlands. Three children preceded Mr. Zoet in death: Gertie, who died at the age of 19 years due to a brain tumor in 1923; John Gerrit, who died at the age of 5 years in 1920 and Andrew, who died at the age of 2 years in 1920, both of whom died of the effects of scarlet fever. One brother also preceded him in death. Mr. Zoet made confession of his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age and was known as an active church goer and worker. He was an able student of the Word of God and for many years was known as a pillar of activity in the church. He served in the consistory of the Carmel Reformed church and the First Reformed church of Hull, Ia., for more than thirty years. He also served as a Sunday school teacher. He was known as an energetic, aggressive and careful farmer. He had a deep interest and a wide knowledge of cooperatives. He served on the board of the Hull Co-op Gas and Oil Co., was president of the Hull Co-op Creamery board and for a time was chairman of the Northwest lowa Cream Improvement Association. He also had a deep interest in community affairs and served as director of the district school board. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 21, at the First Reformed church of Hull with Rev. Nickolas Rozeboom and Rev. James Bogaard officiating. Burial was in the Hope Cemetery of Hull. -Obituary from The Sioux Center News (8/23/1956)
