Mr. John Bronson of Dedham recalls being told by an old man that he as a boy knew that Jonathan used to go courting on horseback down through So. Landaff and over the mountain to Benton [near Bath and Haverhill] and when he met the boy, gave him a penny. Mr. Bronson states his grandfather, Jonathan [6 Jonathan] was a big man of 200 pounds and very strong, also he died before the war, age 84. He died probably 1860. History of Bath, N. H. [Gaz. Of Grafton Co. 1886] we note: Jonathan, [1776] was born in Hartford, Conn. . and with his parents came to Landaff about the time of Rev. War. He often held the office of Selectman; was elected to represent Landaff on the State Legislature re-elected each of the 8 years of his presidency. This is from the book Personal Traces by Andrea M. John Jamison — interviewed in 1850. John Jamison was born on May 7, 1783 on the Zenas Dexter farm. He was the son of Samuel Jamison, a revolutionary soldier and spent his life in Lisbon. He recalled when the town was called Gunthwaite. "Maj. Whitcomb came and talked with my father about it. They were afraid they should lose their land." Jonathan Bronson – [son of Jonathan who came from Southington, CT – J. Magee] interviewed in 1850. Jonathan Bronson was born in 1776 and came to Gunthwaite [Lisbon] in 1782. "Willard [a Surveyor] run out the G. [Gunthwaite] outlines — came to Landaff where I have resided." Members of the Young family were among the earliest settlers of Lisbon. Sir John Young was from Dorchester. England. According to a grandson of Major John Young, three of Major John Young's Sons were among a select company that erected a few cottages at an excellent spring of water known as Shawmut in Massachusetts. This was the commencement of Boston, which for a short time was called Tri-Mountain. Samuel Young, one of the three Young sons, is the ancestor of the Lisbon Young family according to family tradition. ~My (Samuel Emery) paternal grandfather was a native of Haverhill.
