Mrs. Elmer Bergquist and Miss Minnie Williams sang "The Lights of Home," Mrs. George Harrison playing the accompaniments. Following the service interment was in Oakwood cemetery. "Eb," as he was known to friends, died in St. Mary's hospital, Duluth, Minn., Saturday, July 3, following a major operation. He had been in failing health for some months after being in hale and hearty strength for the most of his life. Announcement of his death came as a stunning blow to his host of friends here who had enjoyed living and associating with him for more than half a century. Those who are so greatly bereaved by his death have the sincere sympathy of a host of friends here. Jonathan Elbert Milburn was born Aug. 13, 1871, near Greenville, Tenn., and died in Duluth, Minn., July 3, at the age of 71 years, 10 months, 20 days. He was married to Maude A. Deck on Dec. 22, 1897. To this union two children were born, Leota, who is a teacher in the Sioux City public school system, and Ward, who is employed as an inspector of immigration and naturalization with the United States Department of Justice in Duluth, Minn. At the age of 13 years, the family moved from Tennessee to Jasper county, Iowa, and 4 years later he came to this locality where he had resided continuously for the past 55 years. In 1902 he moved with his wife and family to the farm west of town where he continued to make his home until December when he moved into his home in Stratford. Possessing a happy nature he was a wise counselor to those close to him who always respected his good judgement. He was always happiest when he was surrounded by his family and friends. Bereft by his sudden death are his daughter and son, two grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. His wife preceded him in death nine years ago.
