Description	:	J. Ervin Huckins, son of J. Robe and Annie Crosby Huckins, was born on May 3, 1900 on a farm near Chester, in Republic Co., Ks. He passed away Jan. 6, 1977 at St. Luke's Hospital, Phoenix, Ariz., after a short illness, at the age of 76 years and 8 months. Ervin attended grade school at Excelsior and graduated from Chester High School in 1919. He passed away Jan. 6, 1977 at St. Luke's Hospital, Phoenix, Ariz., after a short illness, at the age of 76 years and 8 months. Ervin attended grade school at Excelsior and graduated from Chester High School in 1919. His school ties meant a lot to him and he faithfully attended the Alumni Banquet, never missing, celebrating his 57th year last May. He was baptized in the Excelsior School building and joined the Chester United Methodist Church shortly thereafter, where he was a member for 62 years. On June 12, 1923 he was united in marriage with Mary Ellen Bingham of rural Belleville. Ervin farmed his father's land until 1946 when he bought the farm on the state line where he lived until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, 1 brother, and an infant son, Dale J. He is survived by his wife, Mary of Chester, son, Darrell of Wichita, Ks.; 3 daughters, Dorene Eickman, Belleville, Roma Weary Bailey, Tempe, Ariz., Patricia Esslinger, Belleville; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Ervin's life-long interests were his family, his friends and his horses. He cared for his father, his mother and his sister before their death. He loved life and made friends whenever he traveled. One of his last remarks was that he loved each and every one of his children very dearly. Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Jan. 10, 1977 at the First United Methodist Church in Chester, with the Revs. Opal L. and Norman L. Crounse officiating. Organist was Mrs. Dolan Frye, with music by Mrs. Jack Long and Mrs. Harold Porter. Casket bearers were Mark Eickman, Neal Eickman, William Mumm, Leslie Hartley, Russell Burton, Dean Russell. Interment was in Chester Cemetery. Tibbetts Mortuary was in charge.
