Photo: Leadville Today At the time of this report there is no perpetrator in custody according to District Attorney Bruce Brown, who is leading the investigation on the alleged murder. Brown also emphasized that there was no concern for public safety, as the situation was isolated to the two males involved. At present, there are four agencies working on the case from the DA’s office, to the Leadville Police Department who was first on the scene, to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Lake County Sheriff’s Department. For locals who frequent Leadville’s watering holes and eateries, Gausman was a familiar face, living and working in Leadville for nearly 10 years. Most recently Jordan was employed at the Silver Dollar Saloon as the kitchen manager and cook. It was here that a barroom argument started between Gausman and what locals’ are recounting as a non-local, passing-through-town male who was reportedly camping in the area. The unidentified male and Gausman got into a heated discussion inside the historic bar and reportedly, as Jordan stepped outside to smoke a cigarette, the perpetrator followed and a physical encountered ensued, ending in a fatal stab wound for Gausman. While the DA’s office has not released any official information, reports were confirmed to Leadville Today that Gausman’s family of Nebraska was notified when Jordan was pronounced dead early Tuesday morning, after being transported to St. Vincent Hospital in Leadville, and eventually transported via Flight for Life to Denver. Also, for those concerned, Gausman’s dog Coco is being looked after by a dear friend While Harrison Avenue is buzzing with the tragic news, and mourning the loss of a beloved colleague and friend, CBI continues to interview eye witnesses and other individuals in the restaurant and bar industry who may have had contact with the perpetrator. At this time no local memorials services have been planned, but when they are, Leadville Today will report that and any other official information released to the public. ======================= Jordan R. Gausman, 31, passed away May 3 2016 in Colorado. Jordan was born July 25, 1984 in Fairbury. He attended school at CHB and later Thayer Central where he graduated in 2003. Jordan received his Associate Degree in Media Arts from Central Community College in Hastings. In 2006 he moved to Leadville, Colorado and was last employed at the Silver Dollar Saloon as a bartender and cook. His passions were cooking, skateboarding, snowboarding, hiking, camping and drawing. Jordan is survived by his parents, father-Jeff Gausman of Fairbury, mother- Sandi Freese and special friend Neil Zenger of Haddam, brother- James Long and wife Meaghan of Lincoln, nephew- Carter Long, grandmother-Phyllis Gausman of Fairbury, grandparents- Bob and CJ Freese of Fairbury/Phoenix, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. ============================= A Celebration of Life was held in Leadville on May 5 and another on May 9 in Hastings. The family will host a Celebration of Life on June 11, at 7 p.m., at the Neil Zenger barn.
