Description	:	José Francisco Macario Castro y [?] was born at Villa de Sinaloa, Sinaloa, New Spain, about 1754. He enlisted as a soldado de cuera about 1772, about which time he also married María Potenciana Ramírez y [?] (abt. 1755-1811) at Villa de Sinaloa. He was a soldado at Loreto Presidio, Baja California, in 1778 and left there in 1783 with his family as part of the escort that brought the wife of Governor Fages to Alta California in the fall of 1783. Read More	José Francisco Macario Castro y [?] was born at Villa de Sinaloa, Sinaloa, New Spain, about 1754. He enlisted as a soldado de cuera about 1772, about which time he also married María Potenciana Ramírez y [?] (abt. 1755-1811) at Villa de Sinaloa. He was a soldado at Loreto Presidio, Baja California, in 1778 and left there in 1783 with his family as part of the escort that brought the wife of Governor Fages to Alta California in the fall of 1783. He was assigned to the presidio company at Santa Bárbara and served as an escolta at Mission San Gabriel from late 1783 until early 1784. He was promoted to cabo (corporal) and served at San Diego Presidio from 1785 until he was transferred to the garrison at Monterey in 1788, where he remained until his retirement as a sargento (sergeant) about 1797. After he retired from the army he lived at el Pueblo de San José de Guadalupe from 1797-1807. José Francisco Macario Castro was living at Monterey when he died in 1809.
