"John" Braun's headstone -- see "Inscription" below -- and translated it as follows: "Jos. A. Braun, born on October 30, 1830 / Died on June 12, 1876, at the age of 45 years, 7 months, and 12 days". Shortly after Josef A. ("John") Braun's death, the Greenwood Cemetery Association recorded his name simply as "John Braun" perhaps in error or perhaps because he preferred to be addressed as "John Braun" in the United States.
