Description	:	Joseph Wear married Fredricka M. Kahler. On May 1, 1895, Mr. Wear was badly injured in a tornado that also killed his wife and their children Grace, Herman and their 5 week old baby. Mr. Wear was able to attend the funeral of his wife and children which was held on May 2. This tornado, which struck about 4:30 that afternoon, cleared a path several hundred yards wide and about 25 miles in length. Twenty residences were destroyed. Mr. Wear was able to attend the funeral of his wife and children which was held on May 2. Hope bridge over the Arkansas River, not far from the old Carlisle ranch, and extended northeast to a bit southeast of Mound Ridge in McPherson County. From the Halstead Independent, dated Jan. 30, 1908: "Joseph Wear has sold the south-east quarter of section 36, Burrton Township, to Peter Berger. Consideration $7,000. He expects to reinvest in cheaper land in the west part of the state."
