Stahl was born in Elgin, Iowa, August 10th, 1880, and departed this life May 11th, 1944, from the home of his son Orville, north of Nelson, at the age of 63 years, 9 months and 1 day. He came to Nelson when a young man and was united in marriage to Henrietta Baker on November 11th, 1908, at Nelson. She preceded him in death on July 3rd, 1925. Stahl was born in Elgin, Iowa, August 10th, 1880, and departed this life May 11th, 1944, from the home of his son Orville, north of Nelson, at the age of 63 years, 9 months and 1 day. He came to Nelson when a young man and was united in marriage to Henrietta Baker on November 11th, 1908, at Nelson. She preceded him in death on July 3rd, 1925. To this union were born six children all of whom are living. They are: William and Edwin Stahl of Edgar, Orville of Nelson, Pvt. Theodore Stahl of Fort Jackson, S.C., Mrs. Bertha Norman, and Miss Fay Stahl of Lincoln. He also leaves a brother and a sister in Iowa, and two grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Stahl spent 23 years in the employ of the Burlington railroad company between Nelson and Edgar and twelve years at Angus. He has been in failing health the last two or three years and was forced to give up many things that he enjoyed doing. He shall be missed from the family circle, but may these words of Mae Peregrine be an inspiration and a comfort to the dear ones left benind (sic). He Walks With Me. He walked with me down maple-shaded lanes, And violets blossomed-for it was Life's Spring; And for the sunlight and soft-falling rains, I learned from him a song of praise to sing- For everything. He sought me out, where sin had hold of me, And raised me up, as only Father could; And when the world was cmiling (sic) doubtfully At my poor blund'ring efforts to make good, He understood. And still he walks with me, through stretched between Is that still stream of Death, unknown to me; I feel the leading of a hand unseen- Although his kindly smile I may not see, He walks with me. The funeral services were held at the Klawitter mortuary Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock, and were conducted by Rev. Clarence V. Powell, pastor of the Methodist Church. Music was furnished by Mrs. Ross Clem, Mrs. Bertha Portwood, Edw. Portwood and James F. Murphy. Mrs. Murphy presided at the piano. The pallbearers were Frank Norwood, Ollie Aikin, Edw. Portwood, Jesse Hamel, Don Goodrich and Harve Williams. The body was laid to rest in the Nelson cemetery (sic). The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, May 18, 1944; pg. 8
