Balfour 1912-2004 ------------------------------------------ Obituary - The Perth Courier - Oct.9,1975- Joseph Austin MacDonell - Relatives and friends were saddened to learn of the death of Joseph Austin MacDonell on Aug. 19, 1975, in his 75th year, in Kingston General Hospital, after a brief illness. Born in Oso Township, son of the late Robert and Mary McDonell, he spent his younger years in Ontario and then lived for several years in Western Canada where he joined the Canadian Armed Forces, returning to Ontario during the war. He lived in Toronto from 1944 while working as a barber at Sunnybrook Hospital. He retired in 1970 and returned to Maberly where he lived until his death. He is survived by his wife, Christena Ellen Balfour, his stepson Murray Balfour, wife Carole, four granddaughters Judy, Wendy, Janet and Terri of Mississauga; two brothers, John of Maberly, Byrns of Toronto; three sisters, Addie (Mrs. J. Rutherford), of Mannville, Alta; Agnes (Mrs. Wilfred Snedden) of Almonte; Jean (Mrs. Jack Crawford) of Peterborough. Predeceased by two brothers, Harry of Perth and Herbert in World War I; one sister, Gwendoline (Mrs. Jack Buchanan) in Edmonton, Alberta. The body rested at Blair and Son Funeral Home, Perth. The burial service was in St. James Anglican Church on Aug. 21, 1975, with Rev. G.S. Peabody and Canon J.W. Cornish officiating, with interment in Crawford's Cemetery. Pallbearers were Burns, Herrick and Lindsay McDonell, Wayne and Donald Balfour and Jack Dowdall, nephews. The many floral tributes and charitable donations testify to the personality and kindness of the deceased and the esteem in which he was held by all who knew him. ------------------------------------------- Donnelly's Corners News - The Perth Courier - Aug.28,1975- The community was saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. Joseph MacDonell of Silver Lake on Tuesday morning, August 19th, at Kingston General Hospital where he had undergone surgery on Monday. Mr. McDonell, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert McDonell, was born and raised on the farm where his nephew, Mr. Herrick McDonell and Mrs. McDonell now reside. Our sympathy is extended to his wife, brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces. A large number from here attended the wake at Blair and Sons Funeral Home, Perth, on Wednesday and the funeral service at St. Jame's Anglican Church, Perth, on Thursday afternoon.
