In 1905, the family immigrated from North Carolina to the Northwest. By 1910 they are living in Husum, Klickitat, Washington. Jack served as a Private in the 3rd Co 166th Dep Brigade from Jul-Nov 1918. During his service, Jack married Leona Delilah Covey on 10 May 1918 in Skamania, Washington. Jack was a Farmer at the time and was still in farming as of 1920. Their daughter, Irene Elizabeth was born 19 March 1920. The following year the couple lost their one day old infant son (see attached record). Sadly, less than 3 years after the loss of their newborn son, Irene died on 8 August 1924 of pneumonia at the age of 4. By 1930 Jack was in the timber industry as an axeman. The couple lived for a time in Huslim, but, spent the better part of their lives together in White Salmon. They moved to White Salmon around 1935 and remained their until their deaths. Leona died 21 December 1957 leaving Jack a widow at the age of 67. Jack died 16 years later on 16 Nov 1973.
