Death notice published in The South Bend Tribune (South Bend, IN), on Saturday, July 30, 1938, pg. 12. ~~~~ SAN PIERRE -- Joseph Cesal, age 65 years, who had suffered for the past six years with a nervous breakdown and divers ailment, took his own life by hanging himself last Thursday morning before his family awoke. Mr. Cesal of late had become very despondent because of his health and the fact that the future promised no relief. For the past six years he had been constantly cared for by his family, specialists having warned them that in his condition he needed such care and that at any time he might do away with himself, such being the nature of his sickness. His death came as a shock to his family and to this community where he had resided for forty years, spending practically all those years on the farm where he died. Until his sickness he was considered one of the most carefree and happy citizens in this community, always whistling or singing at his work. To his neighbors and friends he was honest and considerate, being held in high esteem by them all. Funeral services were conducted from his family's home on Saturday afternoon, Fr. Louie Bozik offering a very appropriate tribute to the deceased man and to his family. Interment was made in the San Pierre cemetery. Mr. Cesal, of whose parentage and early life little is known, was born in the country of Bohemia in the year 1873 and departed this life on his farm near San Pierre, Ind., on July 28, 1938, at the age of 65 years, his death following an illness of six years duration. As a child he came to America with his parents who settled in the city of Chicago. In the year of 1898 he came to San Pierre, Ind., where he spent a few years working among the farmers of this community, becoming united in marriage to Miss Josephine Dolezal in 1902. Following his marriage he took over the farm where he spent the rest of his life. Five children were born to this union, an infant daughter preceding him in death. Surviving him are his widow, two sons, George and Otto, of San Pierre, and two daughters, Mrs. Knud Hansen of Dunns Bridge and Helen, of Chicago.
