Shelbina Democrat, Shelbina, Missouri, January 02, 1889, Page 1, Column 1 ------- DINES--Joseph Clarke Dines, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Wesley Dines, was born at the old homestead near Shelbyville, Mo., January 24, 1965, and fell asleep in Jesus at the home of his sister, Mrs. Ellen Balthrope, in Rich Hill, Mo., December 27, 1888, aged 23 years, 11 months and 3 days. Joseph lived at home with his parents until he was 22 years old; he went to Chicago, Illinois, where he remained with his sister, Mrs. J. W. Hersey, several months during which time he attended a business college. Upon finishing a thorough course in that institution he returned home, and went from there to Rich Hill, Mo., engaging in business there with his brother-in-law, which relation was continued until he was stricken down with typhoid fever, and after suffering for about three weeks from this terrible disease, he was called home, and is forever at rest. He was for several years a member of the M. E. church South. The deceased endured his afflictions with great patience and resignation, never complaining and always cheerful. He loved his Savior, and frequently asked his mother, who watched by his bedside during his last illness, to read about Jesus from the Bible. He was ready to go and is now "Forever with the Lord." Deceased leaves a father and a mother, 3 brothers and 6 sisters to "toil on" in this life until they, too, shall cross over the river, and join one brother in the promised land. May we gather, an unbroken family, at the river that flows by the throne of God. "Over the river they beckon to me. Loved ones who've crossed to the farther side; The gleam of their snowy robes I see, But their voices are lost in the dashing tide. There's one with wings of snowy gold, And eyes the reflection of Heaven's own blue; He crossed in the twilight gray and cold. And the pale mist hid him from Murial view.
