Herbek were united in matrimony. Rev. Chas. A. Becker, the pastor, read the marriage lines and officiated at the nuptial mass which followed. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Cecilia Kotinek and Cousin Miss Josephine Kotinek, while the groomsmen were Albert and Godfrey Herbek. Following the ceremony the wedding party was honored with a noon dinner at the home of the brides father, attended by the immediate families and the uncles and aunts of the contracting parties, and in the evening a free dance was enjoyed by this general public at the Deweese hall. The bride, a daughter of James Kotinek, is a graduate of the local parochial school and the Lawrence High chool (sic), and is a former school teacher. The groom, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry (Herbek, is a prosperous young farmer. Both are widely and popularly known and carry the best wishes of a host of friends. They begin married life under auspicious on a farm midway between Lawrence and Neson (sic) on what was formerly known as the Blackwood place. - Lawrence Locomotive. ======================= The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, January 6, 2000; pg. 2 Joseph E. Herbek, son of Henry W. and Antonnia (sic) (Karmazin) Herbek, was born December 15, 1908, on a farm near Deweese, Nebraska. He passed away Friday, December 31, 1999, at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 91 years and 16 days. Joe was raised on the family farm. He attended Star Country School and graduated from Deweese High School in 1929. He was a farmer stockman all his life. April 11, 1934, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence, Nebraska, Joe was united in marriage to Rose Kotinek. This union was blessed with two daughters, Mary Sue and Patricia. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nelson. He served on the church board and the rural school board. Joe and Rose moved from their farm northwest of Nelson into Nelson in 1965. Survivors include his wife, Rose of Nelson, Nebraska; two daughters, Mary Sue Hackett of Greeley, Colorado, and Patricia Rose of Branson, Missouri; one brother, George Herbek of Hastings, Nebraska; one sister, Bessie Reining of Hastings, Nebraska; four granddaughters, Kristen Neuman and Kerri Halpern, both of New York, New York, Kellie Klein of Chicago, Illinois, and Anne Waddell of Memphis, Tennessee; one grandson, Joseph Rose of Charlotte, North Carolina; and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, January 5, 2000, at 10:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nelson, Nebraska, with Msg. Adrian Herbek and Father David Drewelow officiating. Lector was Jerome Mazour. Altar boys were Brett and Troy Peterson. Rosary Service was at 10 a.m. led by Sister Rosaline Herbek. Music was "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art" with Richard Sullivan as soloist and Jim Spirk as organist. Interment was in Nelson Cemetery. Pallbearers were Albert Herbek, Jr., Tom Herbek, Roger Herbek, Richard Herbek, Robert Herbek and Melvin Reining. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson, Nebraska, was in charge of the arrangements.
