Warren Arnold MCQuiston 3. Violet Devoto MCQuiston In 1921 he was an employee of the Broad Street Power Company, where he died in an elevator accident on December 3, 1921. Joseph E. McQuiston 65 years old of 54 Crescent Road, in this city , fell from an outside freight elevator in the George W. Payne Manufacturing Company building, Broad Street, at about 7:30 o'clock this morning and died instantly. He was found at the bottom of the elevator well by William Hunt superatendent of the Broad Street Power Company as he was about to enter the building. Although the cause of the accident could not be learned officials of the plant are of the opinion that Mr. McQuiston lost his balance and fell from the carriage in the elevator. The carriage of the elevator was at second level when his body was discovered at the pit below. Mr. McQuiston had arrived at the plant only a short time prior to the accident and his overalls and lunch were found neatly packed on the elevator. It was the custom of the deceased to operate the elevator to the top floor, which is occupied by the Broad Street Manufacturing Company, each morning to take to the platform below, whatever products were to be shipped by that company. the deceased has been employed at the plant for several years and during that time he has been constantly in charge of the elevator. The elevator, officials at the plant say, is equipped with guard rails and all other safety appliances that can be possibly be put on a freight carrier. Due to the fact that the elevator is so equipped and at the time of the mishap Mr. McQuiston was the only one at the plant, the management has been unable to determine the exact cause of the accident. Jude Payne owner of the broad Street Power Company , paid a fitting tribute to Mr. McQuiston saying that he was a very capable and concencious employee and was well liked by his fellow workmen. Mr. Hunt with assistance from Mr. Payne lifted the body to the elevator platform to wait the arrival of medical examiner Charles H. French. After being viewed by Medical Examiner French the body was turned over to T.T. Berry and Sons. Mr. McQuiston was born in Pawtucket and has lived in the city all of his life. He was a horse fancier and it was a common sight to see him driving a pony and a small cart through the streets of Darlington. The deceased was prominent in fraternal circles, having held the leading offices in Ossemequin Tribe, Improved order of Red Men. He was a mechanic by trade. Besides his wife Mr. McQuiston is survived by two sons, Warren and Joseph McQuiston, and five daughters Mrs. Lena Sisson, Mrs. Cora Glidden, Mrs. Edward Howland, Mrs. Carrie Hamilton, and Miss.
