Description	:	Joe H. Novak Jr., was born to Joseph Novak Sr., and Marie Kabes Novak on January 23, 1905, on a farm a little north and west of Milligan. He passed away on January 25, 1992 at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva at the age of 87 and two days. Joe was one of five children in the family. Read More	Joe H. Novak Jr., was born to Joseph Novak Sr., and Marie Kabes Novak on January 23, 1905, on a farm a little north and west of Milligan. He passed away on January 25, 1992 at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva at the age of 87 and two days. Joe was one of five children in the family. Joe was born west of Milligan and raised in the area between Milligan and Geneva. He lived and farmed in the Geneva area. He was married to Anna E. Hamouz of Milligan on September 10, 1928, in York. Three children were born to this marriage. He and Anna farmed near Geneva until they moved to the Fairmont community in 1937, where they lived and farmed until their retirement to Fairmont in 1983. Eventually his sons-in-law and grandsons helped carry on his farming tradition on the homeplace , north and west of Fairmont. Joe's formal education may have ended in the eighth grade, but his desire and determination to further his knowledge never ceased. He could discuss, intelligently any subject from politics to farming, to his greatest love-nature. The base for this knowledge came from hours spent reading. Joe would read anything and remembered everything. He loved all of God's creation from the tiniest birds to the tallest trees. He honored his Creator by planting at least one tree a year, but usually many more. He was a caring family man, who provided for his beloved wife and children through drought and depression. Grampa Joe, brought joy to his young grandson's hearts with fishing trips to the Blue River; taught his granddaughters an appreciation of the beauty in nature; and could mend whatever needed repairing with ingenuity and baling wire. He served several years on the West Blue Township Board and also was a member of ZCBJ Milligan Lodge 420. He served as a member of District 4 School Board for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Chas. J. Novak of Crete, sister, Mae Schmidt of Fairmont; and daughter, Mary Ann Novak. He is survived by his wife, Anna; daughters, Bonnie Kness and husband Kenneth of Fairmont, Rosalie Kleinschmidt and husband Richard of Shickley; brother, William Novak of Geneva; sister Betty Brown and husband Rex of Fairmont; four grandchildren, Gary Kness and wife Debra of Fairmont, Karen Kness of Fairmont, Russ and Rick Kleinschmidt of Shickley; nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from the Fairmont Community Church at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 1992, with Rev. Tony Woodward officiating. Mrs. Delores Swartz accompanied the congregation who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Pallbearers were Gary Kness, Russell Kleinschmidt, Rick Kleinschmidt, Paul Novak, Tom Novak and John Upton. Honorary bearers were Jim Finney, Dwight Fassnacht and John Lowe.
