Description	:	Mae Schmidt was born to Joseph Novak and Marie Kabes Novak on June 23, 1907, northwest of Milligan on a farm, and passed away May 18, 1986, at the York General Hospital in York, at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 25 days. Read More	Mae Schmidt was born to Joseph Novak and Marie Kabes Novak on June 23, 1907, northwest of Milligan on a farm, and passed away May 18, 1986, at the York General Hospital in York, at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 25 days. She was one of five children in the family. She was raised on farms located northwest of Milligan and attended rural school at District 44 and 33 in Fillmore County. The family purchased a farm east of Geneva in 1927, and they moved to a farm northwest of Fairmont near the Blue River. Mae was a member of the Grace Methodist Church, which later became part of the Fairmont Community Church. She took great pleasure in nature and was particularly fond of plants and birds. Mae was an active participant in many activities, and was a member of many local organizations. Little children were a special joy to her, and she loved her nieces and nephews, as she had no family of her own. Mae was a gracious and kind person by nature, whose concern for others was evident in her kind deeds and thoughts. Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Schmidt, on October 23, 1962, and by her parents Joseph Novak on December 21, 1965, and Marie Novak on November 15, 1974. She is survived by brothers, Joe H. Novak and his wife, Anna, of Fairmont, Charles J. Novak and his wife, Ella of Crete, and William B Novak of Geneva; a sister, Mrs. Betty Brown and her husband, Rex of Fairmont; and by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted from the Fairmont Community Church on Tuesday, May 20, with the Rev. Norman Kauble officiating. Mrs. Marvin Swartz accompanied the congregation which sang a favorite song of Mae's, "How Great Thou Art." Those serving as pallbearers were Kenneth Kness, Richard Kleinschmidt, Dennis Schmidt, Roger Schmidt, Tom Novak and Harold Smith Jr. Interment was in the Fairmont Public Cemetery.
