He was twenty-six or twenty-seven years old and single. ````````` The Seward Independent (Seward, Nebr.), November 22, 1895, p. 1, col. 4 In Memoriam. Joe Schneberger, aged 25 years, died at the home of his sister in Staplehurst after a severe attack of typhoid fever. All that could be done for him by loving hand and medical skill proved of no avail, and when on Monday night, November 11, the angels of death hovered near, he passed away to his eternal home. The funeral services were conducted by Father Rhineheart at the Ulysses Catholic church on Wednesday at 1 o’clock of last week after which the remains were taken to the cemetery for interment. He was highly esteemed by the M. W. of A. of which he was a member, and much beloved by all who knew him. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to his sorrowing brothers and sisters in their sad hour of bereavement. Yes, Joe is at rest; life storm-clouds and sorrows And earth’s tribulations for him are no more, But peacefully sleeping, he calmly crossed over From the darkness of earth to that bright crystal shore. Where even the angels have paused in their singing To welcome him home with a loving embrace, And loving hands beckoned him come over yonder And pillowed him close to his fond mother’s face. The heavenly music grows sweeter and softer As Joe greets his father with tenderest love, And kisses his mother and dear little Tommy And tells them he’s happy to meet them above. So Jacob and Mary and Willie remember That all on earth is beginning to gloam, Your brother is anxiously waiting in heaven To open the portals and bid you come home. - M.C.
