In 1885 he was 47 years old, born Rhineland, and farmed in C precinct with his wife Mary, 45, born [Bahrnen?], nine children Joseph (16, Ill.), Jacob (14, Ill.), Mary (12, Nebr.), William (10, Nebr.), Anna (8, Nebr.), John (6, Nebr.), Augusta (4, Nebr.), Francisca (3, Nebr.), Thomas (2, Nebr.), and two farm hands. In 1881 Mr. Schneeberger offered to donate land from his farm five miles south of Ulysses for a Catholic church but Bishop O'Connor decided the church should be built near a railroad town and chose Ulysses as the site instead. His probate file states he died near Staplehurst, Nebr. on March 23, 1889 and was survived by his wife Maria and eight children: Joseph, Jacob, Mary [wife of Anton Gaertner], William, Annie, John, Augusta, Frances, Thomas, and George. ''''''''''''''' Blue Valley Blade (Seward, Nebr.), March 27, 1889, p. 3, col. 5 BROKE HIS NECK. __ A Wealthy German Farmer of C Township Meets a Violent Death. __ On Saturday afternoon last, Jacob Schneberger, a wealthy German farmer, living about five miles northwest of Staplehurst, went to that place, where he remained until about 8 o’clock in the evening, when he started home with his brother, Simeon Schneberger, who drove the team until his residence was reached, when he got out of the wagon and turned the lines over to Jacob, who proceeded on his way home, about three-quarters of a mile beyond the residence of his brother. A short time afterwards his team arrived at home, when it was discovered that Mr. Schneberger was missing, and members of his family started back to look for him. They soon came to his lifeless body lying in the road, his neck having been broken in the fall. Just how the accident happened will never be known. Mr. Schneberger, it is said, had been drinking during the time he was in Staplehurst, but those who saw him claim that he was not intoxicated to such an extent that he was liable to fall out of the wagon, and that his team must have been frightened at something along the road, and by some means threw him out the wagon. Mr. Schneberger leaves a wife and large family well provided for. His funeral took place Monday, and was largely attended, his remains being buried in the cemetery at Ulysses. By the fall his neck was broken and when found life was extinct. He was a resident of Seward county for seventeen years, and leaves a wife and eight children. The funeral services were held at the Ulysses Catholic church on Monday.
