Joseph Steager, Sr., resident of Butler county since 1883, retiring from farm life and moving to David City in 1920, died at his home Monday, Feb. 11. Dworak, Herman Ficke, John Hein and Peter Vanderheiden. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery. Mr. Steager was born in Austria Novemver 4, 1854. He was married October 10, 1878, to Mary Sachridts, who survives him, as do also ten children, Frank, Joe, John, Mary, Annie, William, Josie, Lucy, Katherine and Lewis, and a brother, Frank Steager, of Scotia. Mr. Steager was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic church. He was a member of the A. O. U. Joe Steager Sr. passed away at his home in David City on Monday after an illness of only three and one half days. Deceased was born in Austria on November 4, 1854. In 1880 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Sacrider coming to the United States in 1883. For many years Mr. and Mrs. Steager lived and farmed near David City where their children were born and reared to young manhood and womanhood. Six years ago Mr. and Mrs. Steager retired from actual farming and moved to David City where they have since made their home. Mr. Steager was a staunch member of the Catholic chruch from which place services were held on Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock with interment in the Catholic cemetery. Besides a devout wife deceased leaves a family of children, Joe, Louis and John, all living on farms near this city, Mrs. Anna Jones of Ainsworth, Mrs. Mary Kroening and Will Steager of Bellwood, Mrs. Josie Grubaugh of Rising City, Frank Steager of near Millerton, Katie and Lucy living at thome. All the children were present at the funeral except Mrs. Jones and Miss Lucy, who could not be present on account of illness. Frank Steager a brother of Scotia was also present at the burial. Pall bearers were Herman Ficke, Ed. Dworak, John Hein, Pete Vanderheidenn, Theodore and Charles Brochtrup.
