STEGER AGED RESIDENT PASSED ON Funeral Services Were Held on Tuesday Morning Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Steger, long-time resident of David City, who passed away at her home in northeast David City Saturday evening, April 15, were held at 9:30 o'clock Tuesday morning in St. Mary's Catholic church, conducted by Rev. W. A. Murphy. Frank Birkel, George Hilger, C. M. Humlicek, L. R. Kreizinger, Jack Schmit and Peter Vanderheiden were the pallbearers. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery. Mrs. Steger was aged 84 years, 10 months and 21 days. She was born May 24, 1854, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Sacrada, in Stermburg, Germany, where she grew to young womanhood and was married to Joseph Steger. A few years after their marriage they came to Nebraska and Butler county, spending the remainder of their lives near and in David City, moving to the present Steger home 21 years ago. Ten children, five sons and five daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Steger. Two daughters have passed on, Mrs. Anna Jones on November 30, 1928, and Miss Lucy Steger on August 17, 1930. The surviving children are Frank, Joe and Miss Katie of David City, William of Columubs, John of Clarks, Louis of Hood River, Ore., Mrs. Mary Kroesing of Bellwood and Mrs. Josie Grubaugh of Ainsworth. Mr. Steger passed away February 15, 1926. Mrs. Steger is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Frances Springer of Kearney. All of the children and their families were present at the funeral except Louis, who was unable to come. Mrs. Springer was also present. Although Mrs. Steger had been in failing health since suffering a stroke more than two years ago, she was bedfast for only a week prior to her death. She was a great lover of outdoor life and took much pleasure in her yard and garden. Since Mr. Steger's death the daughter, Miss Katie, lived with her mother, giving her faithful care and devotion. Mrs. Steger was a devout member of the Catholic church and made many friends during her lifetime.
