He was a member of the Church of the Assumption, Knights of Columbus Council No. 534, the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and was a past Grand Knight of Council 2608. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge, a past president of the Knights of Columbus Bowling League and a former officer in the City Bowling Association. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Frances Melchoir, of the home, 604 West Eight; a son, Jerome Melchoir and a daughter, Barber Jean Melchoir, both of the home; his mother, Mrs. Catherine Melchoir, Topeka; five brothers, Peter J., John, George P., and Jacob Melchoir, all of Topeka, and Michael Melchoir, Chicago, Ill.; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Schwerdt, and Mrs. Barbara Porubsky, both of Topeka, and Mrs. Anna Mermis, Gorham, Kan. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Assumption with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Rosaries to be recited at Brennan Funeral Home include the junior class of St. Francis School of Nursing at 3:30 p.m., Hayden High School football team at 4 p.m., Knights of Columbus 534 at 7:30 p.m., Fourth Degree at 7:45 p.m., the Parish at 8 p.m., and the Daughters of Isabella at 8:30 p.m. Family requests that no flowers be sent but that contributions be made to the cancer fund.
