Joseph Kelch, son of John and Susan Kelch, was born September 17, 1876 at Toulon, Ill. When a young man he came with his parents to Fillmore county, Nebr. On May 20, 1901 he married Lillian Ellwood and to them six children were born, Warren, Earl, Alvin, Mae and Mildred, and one son, Gerald, who died in infancy. His wife died January 13, 1919. He moved to Wymore, then to Norwood, Mo., and then came to Jefferson county, Nebr., where he has since resided. On June 17, 1923 he married Gertrude (Stewart) Meredith, and to them one child Ruby was born. Surviving are his wife, Gertrude; three daughters, Mae Johnson of Superior, Mildred Holes of Powell and Ruby McDonald of Fairbury; four sons, Warren of Modesto, Calif., Earl of Fairmont and Alvin and Jerry of Fairbury; five stepchildren, Orville and Ray Meredith of Bakersfield, Calif., William of Winthrop, Wash., Ralph of Fairbury, and Vira Burk of Redhouse, Nevada; one brother, Pete of Geneva; five sisters, Lizzie Fisher of Lincoln, Mac Jay and Katie Savlor of Albany, Ore., Hattie Stoldorf of Shenandoah, Iowa, and Minnie Smidt of Fairfield, Nebr., and 26 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Traum's chapel with Rev. W. H. Clark officiating, and at the United Brethren church at Geneva where interment was made.
