Description	:	Joseph Lincoln Winsor of Beaver Crossing, who died August 7, at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 3 days, was a real pioneer of Seward county and Nebraska, as his ancestors were of the American colonies and of these United States, for he was a direct descendant of Roger Williams, the founder of Rhode Island, Capt. Read More	Joseph Lincoln Winsor of Beaver Crossing, who died August 7, at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 3 days, was a real pioneer of Seward county and Nebraska, as his ancestors were of the American colonies and of these United States, for he was a direct descendant of Roger Williams, the founder of Rhode Island, Capt. Abraham Rounds Winsor of the Revolutionary War, and one of the earliest English families in America, dating from Joshua Winsor at Boston in 1630. He came with his parents Abram R. and Harriett Winsor, from Dubuque, Iowa, where he was born March 4, 1865--the date of the second inauguration of President Abraham Lincoln--to Seward county, Nebraska, where they set up a homestead June 14, 1869, and in this vicinity he resided the rest of his life. His father built the first house in K precinct, Seward county. He has told some vivid accounts of early Seward county history, including the famous grasshopper plague in 1874, and of the hazardous April blizzard in 1873.On October 11, 1884, he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth DeCamp, and to this union were born five daughters, all living.In the autumn of 1890 he and his wife affiliated with the Methodist church of Goehner, and were both baptized in the Blue river by the pastor, Rev. Wells.He took a great interest in his home town and was an active participant in Seward county and Nebraska affairs, being one of the last of the ealry settlers in this vicinity. He managed his own farm until the spring of 1914, when he engaged in the real estate business.His wife preceded him in death on April 23, 1945, after a marriage of 60 years, 6 months and 12 days.Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon. Rev. Geo. E. Danskin officiated at the home and Masonic services were conducted at the grave. Burial was in the Beaver Crossing cemetery.He leaves to mourn his passing five daughters, all of whom were present at the services; Mrs. Grace Smith of Cambridge, Nebr., Mrs. Marietta Wolgemuth of Great Falls, Mont., Mrs. Jessie Hannah of Lincoln, Miss Alice Winsor of Beatrice and Mrs. Ruby Hansen of Beaver Crossing, 8 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.Seward Independent, Seward, NE, Wed, Aug 20, 1947
