Description	:	Joseph Oliver Holt (Holte) was born on May 29, 1912 to Thor and Rachel (Ostrem) Holt in Montrose (McCook County) SD. The joy of "Oliver's" birth would soon turn to sorrow as he was born premature surviving for only one hour. Using his carpentry skills, Thor built a coffin, and also dug the grave, to buried his son, in the Saint Jacobs cemetery. Joseph is survived by his parents; a brother William (Bill), born Jan 2, 1908 and sister, Gladys, born Feb 18, 1910, all at home in Montrose SD; his paternal grandfather, Tormod Holte of Norway; and maternal grandmother, Johanna Ostrem. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Viaradtr (Homletveit) Holte in 1905. The exact location of "Oliver's" grave is unknown. The years have faded memories and the rock marking the grave site has been removed, by unsuspecting persons, not knowing the importance of it's placement. His birth was attended by Dr. N.W. Spencer. This information was found in the McCook County court house, Book #1. There is a death record on file but no cemetery records of his burial were found.
